Happiness in this life is to love and be loved. Every relationship has its own importance however amongst various relationships, the special bond of love shared between brothers and sisters is considered to be the strongest. Nothing in this world can compensate for the sibling bonding.

Siblings are the lampposts alongside the road which doesn’t make your journey shorter but make it worth by lighting it up in the time of darkness. I share a great bond of love with my brother and sister. I believe they are my strength. Whatever happens in my life, whether its a moment of joy or sorrow, other than parents there are two souls who are always there with me. We share unconditional love for each other which is beyond description in words.

Older people and latest researches tell that the strong relationships is the utmost base of the happiness and sense of fulfilling in human’s life. Nothing can give the meaning to your life like relationships, so it’s important to make them an important part of your life. Relationships shape our lives and personalities. Your relationship with yourself and with others always should be your first priority.

The essence of Sibling Bonding

Sibling’s relationship is the first school to learn humanity, responsibility, care, love, respect, acceptance etc. It also teaches you equally important aspects of life – to fight and take stand for self and others. You learn how to accept people the way they are. You learn that even though other people are different, you can have a long-term relationship with someone based on solidarity, fun, and shared memories. This relationship becomes the base of all other relationship which you live in later life.

The festival of Raksha Bandhan presents an opportunity to brothers and sisters to express their complete love and support to each other in whatever they choose to do in their lives. The sacred thread that the sisters tie on the wrist of their brothers, is a promise of mutual love and respect.

I believe it’s a day to celebrate the bond of love, which can be between same gender siblings too. In today’s scenario, the girls acquiring greater financial and physical independence, their expectations from the brothers is more emotionally than any other aspect. They are also in a position where they can be the source of strength and support for their brothers.

I have triplet daughters. For us, it’s a festival that brings all the children in the family together and we get a chance to celebrate our love for each other. They tie rakhi to each other and exchange greeting cards and gifts with each other. The whole family celebrates together. So it’s beyond the roles of brother and sister and it becomes a family function.

The ceremony of Rakhi tying is so important that come what may, brothers and sisters try to visit each other on this particular day to ensure the solidarity of the family, bringing the family closer in an emotional bond of love. This Raksha Bandhan my brother along with his family visited us in Shimla. That visit not only gave us the happiness but the great warmth to make that bond stronger on this special day. All the kids along with the elders celebrated the festival by showing the great love to each other.

Celebrations are not limited to just tying a Rakhi to your brother, but expands beyond that! It goes on to strengthen the bond between families at large. I share a warm relation with my brother in law and tie the rakhi to him as well. Such rituals add some magic to your bonding which really makes them special and stronger without saying anything in words.

When a Rakhi is tied on the wrists of close friends, relatives, and neighbors, its emphasis on the need for a friendly social life. This leads to broadening our vision beyond the borders of our own family to the entire earth as one family. This gives the message of universal brotherhood and sisterhood.

Festivals really give you the opportunity to revitalize your relationships, hence your life. Here are my girls celebrating their love for each other!
